So, I am new to blogging on Coal Is Dirty, but if you follow the other sites where I post -- Its Getting Hot In Here [1]and RAN's Understory [2] -- you'll see that I post ALOT about radical environmentalists fighting King Coal using non-violent direct action.
A theme lately has been groups like Mountain Justice [3], Earth First, Rising Tide [4], RAN [5]and Greenpeace [6](US and internationally) stepping it up on the coal fight.
Last week in Richmond, 12 were arrested blockading Dominion Resources’ HQ [7] on the day they began construction at the Wise County coal plant.
Well, we have another Monday morning and we have another direct action [8] at the HQ of people building new coal fired power plants. After this week’s rendezvous, Earth First! held a demo at American Municipal Power’s HQ in Columbus OH and five entered the building and chained themselves inside. Police, in typical fashion, responded by using mace to force them out.
Meigs County is an environmental sacrifice zone and the location of FOUR proposed plants. The only thing that doesn’t make sense is that only eight were arrested and not eighty.
Earth First! and Rising Tide are leading the way in this struggle against these coal plants.
We must support them in every way possible.
Please donate to their jail support here [10].
