Major Coal Conference Infiltrated!

Greenpeace activists pose as industry delegates to gain access to high level coal meetings in NYC.

Today Greenpeace infiltrated the CoalUSA conference, hosted annually by the McClosky Group which they self promote as:

“Firmly established as the “must attend” event on the coal industry calendar, McCloskey Coal USA conference will again feature an impressive gathering of the U.S.’ and the world’s most important industry figures in New York City.”

Well joke’s on them; the activist group posed as the non-existent “Institute for Energy Solutions” in order to gain sponsorship at the conference. You can visit the groups website now www.tomorrowsenergytoday.org however you will land conveniently right back here on the coal is dirty homepage.

Carroll, one of our conference delegates has been blogging on the activities and writes:

“We decorated the booth with precisely the sort of give-aways you should expect at a coal industry conference: To educate coal execs about coal's role in America's asthma epidemic, we're giving away asthma inhalers with the label "Coal--takes my breath away!" To help them understand how coal mining poison's streams and rivers, we brought water bottles filled with mine discharge. And to remind them that burning coal is the biggest single cause of global warming, we're giving away keychains that say "Global Warming? Coal is the key."

But it doesn’t end there. The truth of coal is being disseminated inside the board room also. At one point during the presentation Carroll was invited to speak, most likely to avoid the otherwise inevitable outbursts. And as the group broke for lunch, children greeted conference attendees by passing out re-branded asthma inhalers.

Keep up with the action live on the Greenpeace blog where “delegates” from the conference will be keeping up to date the actions going underway at CoalUSA.

Great story Kate - cute picture!

Disgustiing.

One of the most low down, completely disgusting things an organization such as this could do. I am in support of alternative energy sources, living healthier, smarter, and greener. But this is seriously one of the most low-down, dirty things I have read done by such an organization lately. Lying to sneak in, handing out materials to trick people to your website, etc. Where are your morals? I'm sorry, no, I don't really support the actions of the coal industry, or oil industries at all. But lead by example, not by trickery or corruption already has a stronghold upon this organization.

Wow, you guys really pulled

Wow, you guys really pulled one on those dirty coal producers who, you know, provide power to your homes and your internet sites and all. You got them! Would you rather we all go back to the stone age? Windmills ain't going to do the trick, honey, no matter how clever or hyperbolic you want to be.
