Join the Cliffside Climate Action on April 20 for a Mass Rally and Anti-Coal Action

The No Coal Movement goes from DC to NC to keep the heat on Big Coal

Big Coal probably thinks they need a bit of a break. Too bad for them, that’s not really our style.

As an anti-coal organizer, in the wake of the Capitol Climate Action, I’m getting calls and emails from people all over the country wanting to escalate on coal mining, coal plants, coal waste and coal financing.

Many want to know what’s next. Well, we’ve got a good one.

On April 20, the coalition that has been fighting Duke Energy’s Cliffside coal plant are calling for a mass ralley and civil disobedience at Duke’s HQ in Charlotte, NC.

If built, Cliffside would emit 6 million tons of CO2 each year, and would be fueled by coal from mountaintop removal mines.

The convergence starts Sunday, April 19th with a day of trainings in nonviolent direct action, strategic organizing, and other skills. On Monday April 20th, we will hit the streets and take direct action at Duke Headquarters.

As we build up to this exciting day here are a few things you can do to make this a successful event:

Bad news for Cliffside

Hey everyone: its especially important that we ramp up the pressure on Duke Energy and the Cliffside project. Last week the expansion (Unit 6) was designated as a "minor” source of hazardous air pollutants. This is the same thing all over again, only addressing certain air pollutants, not all, and because this is an enormous expansion, 800mw, its going to have a significant impact on the local community, which for me is my whole family. They are only getting away with this because they have agreed to close down their old inefficient boilers. But even doing so, the new unit is so big it will be able to double the net output! I'm not satisfied with Duke being patted on the back and rewarded for shutting down old out of date technology only to replace it with new. All coal is dirty coal, and any new plant is step in the wrong direction. I hope you will join me on April 20th and RSVP to Stop Cliffside.

Coal companies have a lot of

Coal companies have a lot of power in the media, and unfortunately a lot of information doesn't get out.
