Carbon Capture and Storage Plans a Pipe Dream?

Energy bosses at this week's World Petroleum Congress (WPC) are keen to promote carbon capture and storage (CCS) as the solution to global warming and greenhouse gas emissions.

But experts are warning not to run to the bank just yet as a dicovery Channel news article asks: Is Carbon Capture a Pipe Dream?

"... ask an expert when the technique could be deployed on a large enough commercial scale to make a significant reduction in global CO2 emissions, and the response is often less than confident.

'That's a very difficult question,' said Olav Kaarstad, a leading expert and special advisor to front-running Norwegian energy group StatoilHydro."

Most experts (including many in the coal industry) believe we are still a very long ways away from seeing commercial-scale, zero-emission carbon capture and storage for coal-fired electricity plants.
